Baseball's Chase Sortor Claims OVC and National Player of the Week Honors
OVC RELEASE | COLLEGIATE BASEBALL RELEASE

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Making his Morehead State debut in Saturday's doubleheader at Furman, redshirt junior Chase Sortor introduced himself to Eagle fans and Ohio Valley Conference in a big way, claiming OVC Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week honors.

Sortor, a Temple, Texas native, comes to Morehead State from McLennan Community College in Texas. During his freshman season in 2017, he helped McLennan to a 52-13 record and an appearance in the NJCAA World Series.

During the Eagles' weekend series at Furman, Sortor finished 5-for-7 with a pair of doubles and three home runs, driving in six runs on the weekend. He also added two walks as he produced a .714 batting average, .778 on-base percentage, and a 2.286 slugging percentage. He opened the doubleheader going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and an eighth inning two-run homer. He'd then turn around in the nightcap and go 4-for-4 with two doubles and two home runs, producing four RBI for the Eagles.

In addition to being named OVC Player of the Week and a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, Sortor is a nominee for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Performance of the Week. Fans can help Sorter claim this national honor by heading to @USAGoldenSpikes on Twitter and vote for Sortor in the organization's weekly poll.

Sortor and the Eagles return home for a four-game set this weekend at Allen Field, hosting Oakland for a non-conference series. The series kicks off Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET with games also set for Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m.).
