GAME NOTES

THE SERIES WITH ALABAMA STATE
Tuesday's and Wednesday's games mark the third straight season that Morehead State has met Alabama State on the diamond. The Eagles hold a 4-0 advantage in the series, capturing all four games in the state of Alabama. Morehead State captured the first two games of the series in 2017 with both being played at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala., before capturing both games last season at Alabama State.

HITTING ANOTHER MILESTONE
Morehead State's 7-2 victory over in-state rival Eastern Kentucky last Friday secured another career milestone for head coach Mike McGuire. The win secured his 200th career victory at Morehead State, making him the fourth coach in program history to reach 200 wins as the Eagle manager, joining Steve Hamilton (305), John Jarnigan (263), and John "Sonny" Allen (226). For his career, McGuire has captured 344 victories, picking up his 300th last March with an 8-4 victory at Southeast Missouri.

UNANIMOUS SELECTION
Morehead State centerfielder Connor Pauly had a week to remember as earned unanimous Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors. The selection marked the second time in his career Pauly had been named OVC Player of the Week (April 9, 2018). Over five games last week, Pauly hit .478 (11-for-23) with two doubles and four home runs, scoring six runs while driving in 13. He compiled multiple hits in all five games, homering in four, including in three straight games against Eastern Kentucky. The honor also marks the second time this season Morehead State has claimed OVC Player of the Week honors with Pauly joining Chase Sortor (Feb. 18).

PAULY IS A MULTI-MAN
Entering the week, Pauly leads the OVC in multi-hit and multi-RBI games, totaling 11 and seven, respectively. In five games last week, Pauly logged multiple hits in all five games while driving in multiple runs in each of the last four. On the year, Pauly has collected a hit in all but four of the team's 19 games while driving in at least a run in 11 games.

ONE IS GRAND, TWO IS PHENOMENAL
As a part of his four-homer week, Pauly clubbed his second grand slam of the season, a no-doubter to rightfield off Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Ferris in the sixth inning of last Saturday's 7-5 Morehead State victory, breaking a 3-3 deadlock. The slam also marks the team's third of the season, equaling the team total from a season ago.

CONTINUING TO FIND A WAY TO REACH
Morehead State catcher Hunter Fain continues to lead the NCAA in on-base percentage, reaching base at a .629 clip. He has reached in all 18 games in which he has played this season, extending his reached-base streak to 22 total games. In total, Fain has reached 44 times this season, posting 23 hits and 13 walks while being hit by eight pitches.

LONGEST STREAK IN THE LEAGUE
By reaching in all three games in last weekend's series with Eastern Kentucky, Fain upped his current reached-base streak to 22 games. Fain has reached in all 18 games in which he has appeared this season, adding to the four games he carried over from last season. With Eastern Illinois' Hunter Morris and Jimmy Govern failing to reach in last Saturday's game at Murray State, Fain now claims the mantle of the league's longest active reached-base streak.

SLASH LINE AMONGST THE TOP-TEN
Through 19 games this season, Fain finds his slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) ranked amongst the top-10 in each of the three individual categories. Fain leads the nation in on-base percentage (.629) while ranking fifth in batting average (.469) and seventh in slugging percentage (.857). This makes Fain one of only three players in the nation to find themselves in the top-10 in each of these three categories, joining New Mexico State's Nick Gonzalez and Oregon State's Adley Rutschman.

BREAK OUT THE BROOMS
With a 15-4 victory on Sunday afternoon against Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State became the first team to sweep a series in conference play this season. At the conclusion of the weekend, the Eagles were one of three teams to have swept in league play as they were joined by Austin Peay who swept Tennessee Tech and Belmont who swept UT Martin. Thanks to the series featuring the only two teams in the OVC playing in the Eastern Time Zone, Morehead State was able to capture the first sweep of OVC play.

HOME SWEET HOME
Over the last five seasons, Morehead State has excelled playing in the friendly confines of John "Sonny" Allen Field. In fact, the Eagles own an 81-24 record at home in the last five years, winning 15 or more games at home in each season. Even more remarkable, Morehead State has not dropped 10 or more games at home in a season since 2011.

SECOND-HELPING
This season, Morehead State has been outscored 18-13 in the first inning this season. This discrepancy has led to some interesting splits, such as when the opponent scores first, Morehead State is just 5-5 this year and when that run comes in the first inning, Morehead State is 4-3. On the other hand, the Eagles are 9-0 when scoring first and 5-0 when scoring in the first inning. Not to fret about the lack of scoring in the first for Morehead State as they've totaled 38 or the team's 161 runs in the second inning this year while holding opponents to just seven runs. The second inning marks the Eagles' highest-scoring inning by a wide margin (18 runs) while also tying for the stingiest inning for Eagle pitchers.
