MARTIN, Tenn. – Despite home runs from
Cheyenne Meyer and
Kalle Coleman, the Morehead State softball team was defeated by Ohio Valley Conference for UT Martin in two games during a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Bettye Giles Field.
UT MARTIN 10, MOREHEAD STATE 1 (5inn)
Senior
Cheyenne Meyer went 2-for-2 at the plate and crushed her second-career home run over the left field wall as the Eagles fell to the Skyhawks in five innings.
Meyer's solo shot came in the third inning as the Eagles tried to claw back from a 9-run deficit. The senior got aboard again in the fifth with a single down the left-field line but was unable to come around to score in the final frame played.

Randi Hamilton suffered the defeat in her fifth start to fall to 2-5 overall. Hamilton allowed five runs on five hits while sophomore
Alexis Strother also gave up five runs on just two hits while walking four batters in three innings.
UT Martin's Hannah Ridolfi earned the win to improve to 6-5 overall
UT MARTIN 11, MOREHEAD STATE 2 (5inn)
After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, sophomore
Kalle Coleman turned on the first pitch of her first at-bat in the second inning and sent it over the center field fence to cut the Skyhawks' lead to 5-2.
Coleman scored herself and junior
Cassie Griffin, who led off the inning with a double, as she hit her first home run of 2019 and the second of her career.
Unfortunately for Morehead State, the double by Griffin and homer by Coleman turned out to be the only hits of the day as they fell to the Skyhawks in five innings.
Strother made the start for the Eagles and suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season. Freshman left-hander
Lakyn Largent tossed two frames in relief and gave up just one run on three hits.
Erin Gallagher earned the win in the circle for the Skyhawks to improve to 6-1.
