MOREHEAD, Ky. -- A crucial Ohio Valley Conference series is on the horizon for Morehead Sate baseball as the Eagles travel to Austin Peay for three.
Game one is set for 7 p.m. ET Friday with games Saturday and Sunday too. Weather could be a factor so the schedule may be updated.
The Eagles (23-11/8-4 OVC) have climbed back into a tie for first place in the league and sport the conference's best overall record. Austin Peay is 16-15 in all games and 9-6 in league matchups. The Govs are 10-6 at Raymond C. Hand Park.

THE SERIES WITH AUSTIN PEAY
Morehead State trails the all-time series with Austin Peay 58-35 after dropping two of three with the Governors at home last season. Under head coach
Mike McGuire, the Eagles trail 9-8, owning a 3-5 record in Clarksville and a 5-4 record at Allen Field. Last time the Eagles and Governors met at Austin Peay, the teams split a pair of games, splitting a Friday doubleheader.

Jason Goe's Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week performance last week, Morehead State has made it two awards in as many weeks as senior outfielder
Jake Hammon took home Player of the Week honors this week. The Smyrna, Tenn. native batted .529 (9-for-17), slugging .941, and reaching base at a .526 clip. Hammon roped a double and club a pair of home runs, driving home eight while scoring five and adding in a stolen base as he became the third different Eagle to claim a Player of the Week nod (
Chase Sortor and
Connor Pauly) in addition to Goe's Pitcher of the Week honor.
HITTING THE TRIFECTA
With Morehead State's 19-0 win Tuesday against Alabama A&M, head coach
Mike McGuire recorded his 300
th NCAA coaching victory and now has 301 NCAA victories in his career (211 at Morehead State and 90 and Lander [S.C.]). This milestone comes after McGuire recorded his 350
th career coaching victory (adding in 52 victories at Louisburg [N.C.]) during last weekend's doubleheader versus SIUE and collecting his 200
th career victory at Morehead State earlier in the season.
KEEP THE HITS COMING
Morehead State's senior outfield duo of
Connor Pauly (third nationally) and
Jake Hammon (11th) continue to rake in the hits at the plate, placing 1-2 on the OVC's hits leaderboard with 58 and 55 hits, respectively. Both men picked up at least four hits across midweek action this week, with both recording multi-hit efforts in the Eagles 19-0 victory on Tuesday. On the year, the pair rank tops on the club with 21 (Pauly) and 17 (Hammon) multi-hit games this season.
DOUBLE VISION
With three doubles as part of a 4-for-4 day last Friday against SIUE, junior catcher
Jon Burghardt added his name to the Morehead State record books, becoming the ninth player in program history to record three doubles in a game. Burghardt's three doubles make him the fourth player in the last five seasons to accomplish the feat.
THE MORE RUNS, THE MORE FUN
On the season, Morehead State has hung double-figure runs on the board in 12 of the team's 34 games. The Eagles own an 11-1 record in such games and have won all 11 of the double-digit run games that have occurred at Allen Field. With 11 games of 10 or more runs at home this season, the Eagles average a double-figure scoring mark, scoring 10.8 runs per game at home as opposed to a 4.8 runs per game output on the road.
ENDING THE DROUGHT
After going eight games without a home run entering last week's midweek contest at Ohio, Morehead State exploded over the last week, slamming 12 home runs across the last six games. The Eagles collected a home run in all six games with three multi-homer games. On the season, Morehead State has hit multiple home runs in 11 games, hitting a team game-high four last time out against Alabama A&M.
WHAT A STAFF
Through 34 games this season, Morehead State's pitching staff ranks among the best in the OVC. The Eagles lead the league in earned run average, sitting a hair north of 4.00 on the season (4.06) and leading the conference by 39 points. Morehead State also leads the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.61), total strikeouts (308), WHIP (1.33) and walks per nine innings (3.60) while also ranking second in the league with three shutouts.
RAKING UP THE K'S
With a pair of double-figure strikeout games during the midweek, Morehead State has struck out at least 10 hitters in 13 of the team's 34 games this year. These double-figure strikeout games have helped the Eagles to lead the OVC in strikeouts with 308 on the season. Averaging 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings, Morehead State ranks third in the league in the category and are one of four teams in the league to average at least nine strikeouts per nine innings.
STILL, HOME SWEET HOME
By picking up two wins against Alabama A&M in the midweek, Morehead State has now captured its last 11 home contests, improving to 17-1 on the season at home. Under head coach
Mike McGuire, the Eagles own a 106-41 record at Allen Field, winning 10 or more games at home in each of the last six seasons. In fact, Morehead State has not dropped double-digit decisions at home since the 2011 season.
