Coleman's Hat Trick Homers Not Enough Against EIU

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Sophomore Kalle Coleman blasted three home runs in two games but the offensive firepower of Eastern Illinois proved to be too much as the Panthers took both games from Morehead State softball in a doubleheader at University Field.

After a three run first inning for the visitors, Coleman's first dinger of the day came as an answer in the bottom of the first inning. EIU quickly answered with three more runs in the second and never looked backed as they added three more runs late to pick up a 9-1 win in six innings.

Morehead State only accumulated three hits to the Panthers' 14. Freshman Princess Valencia, who split time at catcher and in right field, managed a 1-for-3 game with a double.

Game two saw the Eagles score their most runs since March 17, however, the team was unable to slow down the Panthers who cranked out 15 hits.

A Cassie Griffin double plated the game's first run a started a three-run second frame for MSU. Eastern Illinois responded with two runs before Colman clobbered one over the opposite field fence to give the Eagles an 5-3 advantage.

The Panthers began to find a rhythm in the fourth as Haley Mitchell hit a grand slam and a sac-fly made it 8-5 for EIU. The visitors added three-more runs in the fifth before Coleman's last-ditch effort at sparking her team cleared the wall but no hits followed.

Morehead State regresses to 2-31 overall and 0-12 in Ohio Valley Conference play. EIU improves to 12-33 and 3-11 in league play.

The Eagles next game is Friday against Tennessee State in Nashville.
