A Sweep of Jacksonville State Highlights Beach Volleyball's Weekend at the Conway Classic
BOX SCORES (COASTAL CAROLINA | JACKSONVILLE STATE | JACKSONVILLE STATE | COASTAL CAROLINA)

CONWAY, S.C. –
Facing the team's second weekend of Atlantic Sun competition, Morehead State split four matches at the Conway Classic. The Eagles (13-6, 3-3 ASUN) dropped both matches with host Coastal Carolina (15-9, 4-0) while taking both matches against Jacksonville State (3-11, 0-6).

Morehead State's sweep of Jacksonville State constitutes the Eagles first sweep in ASUN action since joining the Atlantic Sun prior to the 2019 season. All three of the team's wins in league play have come at the hands of a traditional Ohio Valley Conference foe as Morehead State has defeated Austin Peay and Jacksonville State this season.

The Eagles got the weekend started Friday dropping their first match of the day to Coastal Carolina (5-0) before bouncing back to take a tightly-contested match with Jacksonville State (3-2). Morehead State came away with a day one split as much of competition was marred by persistent rain throughout competition.

"While we battled CCU and JSU on day one, we also battled the weather," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "The team did a great job of embracing the non-stop downpour and not letting it affect their mentality of aggressiveness throughout the day."

With much fairer weather on day two, Morehead State carried their momentum from day one into their opening match, completing the season sweep of Jacksonville State with another 3-2 victory. The Eagles then kept their momentum rolling, capturing a point with a victory in the second flight before succumbing to Coastal Carolina 4-1.

"While we dropped 4-1 to CCU, we were a few points away from a win. The ones and threes played hard-fought three-set matches that could have given us the points we needed," continued Gordon.

On the weekend, the Eagles received solid play from the pairing of sophomore Olivia Lohmeier and freshman Olivia Montelisciani who combined to collect three victories across four matches. Two of the pair's wins came from the third flight while the final—against Coastal Carolina—came from the second line.

Gordon added, "Liv and Monte continue to work well as a duo and step up to the challenge as the competition level rises. Both are making big defensive plays while terminating at a high level."

Two additional pairing earned a pair of victories on the weekend as the duo of freshmen Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten captured two wins from the top flight, splitting the weekend. Junior Liz Allen and freshman Lauren Rokey also picked up two wins in splitting the weekend, capturing both wins from the fifth flight.

"We had a handful of pairs bring their game to a new level this weekend," remarked Gordon. "Liz Allen and Lauren Rokey did a great job offensively and are working well together."

Also competing for Morehead State on the weekend were graduate student Georgia Childers and freshman Margaret Musselman who competed at the twos and threes on the weekend. Junior Chandler Clark and freshman Hannah Mabrey lined up in the fourth flights for the weekend as well.

In the extra pairings, redshirt senior Jess Hall, redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges, and junior Karlee Reynolds each competed, combining with one another to fill the slot in all four matches. Hodges and Reynolds would team up for two matches while Hall teamed with both Hodges and Reynolds for a match apiece.

"Each pair played their best volleyball of the season at some point during this trip which is exactly where we want to be as we head into the end of conference play," concluded Gordon. "Over the course of the weekend, it was evident that we have made big strides since the beginning of the season."

Morehead State will face one final dual match as a part of ASUN play, traveling to North Alabama to wrap the conference slate and position themselves for a spot in the ASUN Tournament. Match times for next Saturday in Florence, Ala. are set for 12 p.m. ET and 2 p.m.
