MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State junior
Aaron Wier and senior
Justin Moakler will represent the Eagles at the 2019 NCAA East Region track and field preliminaries. Both qualified to take part in the 1,500-meter event.
The East Regional will take place May 23-25 at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, a 9,400-seat facility, in Jacksonville, Fla.
The men's 1,500-meter first round will be run at 6 p.m. ET on May 23. The finals will be on May 25 at 6:45 p.m. Those advancing out of the regional will head to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Championships June 5-8.
Wier hails from Versailles, Ky., while Moakler's hometown is Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The pair are the first from MSU to participate in an NCAA regional since
Desmond Bell ran the 800-meter race his senoor year, also at North Florida, in 2016.
The top 48 times in each event qualify for regionals. Wier's best time this year of 3:44.91Â is the 23rd fastest at the regional, while Moakler's high-water mark of 3:46.43 qualified as the 46th best time. They are the only two Ohio Valley Conference runners in the 1,500-meter races at the East Regional.
Moakler won the 1,500-meter event at the OVC Championships last weekend, while Wier came in third place.
