MOREHEAD, Ky. – After earning Big South All-Freshman honors during her inaugural season at Campbell, six-foot guard Lauren Carter has transferred to join the Morehead State Women's Basketball program.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Carter will set out for 2019-20 season before joining the Eagles on the hardwood for their 2020-21 campaign.
"Lauren will be an exciting player in our fast-paced system," said head coach
Greg Todd. "She is a long, athletic player who is capable of playing guard-to-forward. She had an awesome freshman year at the Division I level, and our staff is looking forward to coaching her."
The High Point, N.C., native was a key member of a 23-win Campbell club in 2018-19 on which she ranked third in scoring with 8.7 points per contest and second in rebounding with 4.5 per game. Her play during the season helped the Camels reach the 2019 Women's Basketball Invitational postseason tournament and All-Freshman Team honors in the Big South Conference.
Before Campbell, Carter was a standout hooper at Southwest Guilford High School where she earned the Piedmont Triad Conference Player of the Year honors. On the AAU circuit, Carter was recognized as one of the best and twice selected to the U.S. Junior National All-Stars.
The guard will join a Morehead State team that has won 20-plus games in three consecutive seasons and been invited to the Women's National Invitational Tournament twice in that span (2017,2019). Most recently in the 2018-19 season, the Eagles won a modern-era best 24 games and stamped the season with a triumph over the Big Ten's Ohio State in the opening round of the 2019 WNIT.
