Volleyball's Bridget Bessler and Olivia Lohmeier Capture Three of Four OVC Weekly Awards
MOREHEAD, Ky. – After a perfect weekend at the Comfort Inn-Vitational, Morehead State volleyball's success continues into the new week as the Eagles collected three of the Ohio Valley Conference's weekly awards.

Morehead State claimed the OVC's Offensive Player, Setter, and Newcomer of the Week awards Monday with junior outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier and freshman setter Bridget Bessler collecting accolades.

Lohmeier earned her second OVC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season and the sixth of her career while Bessler earned OVC Setter and Newcomer of the Week honors for the first times in her career. Also, Bessler's selection as OVC Newcomer of the Week marks the first Newcomer of the Week selection for the Eagles since Lohmeier garnered the final Newcomer of the Week award in 2017.

Earning Most Valuable Player Honors at the 2019 Comfort Inn-Vitational, Lohmeier put together one of the best weekends of her career. She slammed home a team-best 65 kills (5.91 per set) in helping Morehead State to victories over Marshall, Coppin State, and Southeastern Louisiana. Lohmeier hit .379 on the weekend while also contributing 15 digs, an assist, and a service ace, tallying 67.0 points on the weekend.

Lohmeier opened the weekend with a career-best 32 kills against regional rival Marshall. Her 30-plus kill performance marked the first such performance for a Morehead State player since Ellie Roberson in 2012 while also standing as the highest single-match kill total in the OVC this season. She finished the weekend with 15 kills versus Coppin State and 18 versus Southeastern Louisiana.

Also garnering All-Tournament Team honors at the 2019 Comfort Inn-Vitational, Bessler, like Lohmeier, crafted one of the best weekends of her young career. She dished out a team-high 134 assists in 10 sets, averaging a staggering 13.40 assists per set to help Morehead State hit .242 as a team. Bessler also added 24 digs and four service aces on the weekend, collecting a pair of double-doubles.

Bessler opened her weekend with 69 assists versus Marshall. The total marked the highest single-match total in the OVC this season and totaled the most assists in a match for a Morehead State true freshman setter since Casie Garland in 2001. She'd add 23 assists in two sets versus Coppin State before totaling 42 helpers in three sets against Southeastern Louisiana—the highest three-set-match total in the OVC this season.

Bessler, Lohmeier, and the rest of the Eagles return to the court Friday as conference play officially begins. Morehead State hosts Belmont and Tennessee State Friday and Saturday with match times set for 6 p.m. ET and 2 p.m., respectively.
