Soccer Set to Host Belmont Friday
MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State Soccer team will look to improve on its best start to Ohio Valley Conference play since 2010 when they host Belmont on Friday at 6:00 p.m. ET at the MSU Recreation & Wellness Intramural Field.

"We've had a great week of preparation after a good weekend for our program," said Morehead State head coach Warren Lipka. "We've got to come out with intensity and compete from start to finish against Belmont. I know our team is looking forward to being back at home and playing in front of friends and family so now we have to take care of business and pick up points in league play."

The Eagles enter match with a 1-0-1 league record after playing to a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Tennessee Tech and gritting out a 1-0 victory over Jacksonville State in their opening weekend of conference play. Overall, MSU's 2019 record stands at 2-6-1.

On Tuesday, the OVC announced freshman Katelynn Setters as the league's Defensive Player of the Week honor following a solid opening weekend in league player where she scored the equalizing goal against Tech and helped hold JSU scoreless. Setters, a native of Liberty Township, Ohio, is the first Morehead State student-athlete to win a league award this season.

Belmont visits after opening its OVC schedule with losses at Southeast Missouri (2-1) and UT Martin (1-0). Overall, the Bruins are 1-6-2 and 0-6-1 in matches away from home.

Belmont is coached by ninth-year leader Heather Henson. Henson is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 57-73-22 record in nine seasons.

In the all-time series, Belmont holds a 5-3-1 advantage and has won the previous three matchups by a combined score of 6-0. The last Morehead State victory over the Bruins came in a 1-0 overtime thriller on Sept. 27, 2015 at Jayne Stadium.

"Belmont is going to come in hungry," said Lipka. "They've managed to win the past few meetings between us in some tight matches but the past is the past and they're hungry to get points in conference play so I know they'll force us to compete for 90 minutes."

Live statistics will be available for the match on MSUEagles.com.

The match will be a FRO-YO Friday event and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free fro-yo from Chickabiddy.

Fans are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets to set up around the facility due to limited bleacher seating.
