Throwback Thursday: MSU Football Downs Butler During 2015 Homecoming
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Since circumstances have prevented a usual football-filled Homecoming this year, we thought it would be fun to dedicate this week's Throwback Thursday to a Homecoming Week where football was actually played.

In 2015, Morehead State defeated Butler 34-21 in front of a packed house at Jayne Stadium. After, the first quarter, MSU led 10-0 but quickly fell behind 14-10 after a pair of touchdowns by the Bulldogs. The Eagles answered back with two scores of their own to take the 24-14 halftime lead. An early fourth quarter touchdown for Butler cut the home team's lead to just three. Morehead State controlled the game after that point, driving down the field on two separate occasions to put up a touchdown and field goal, respectively. The Eagles officially sealed their victory after senior cornerback Justin Grier's second interception of the day in the final seconds of the contest.

At the time, Eagles were led by junior quarterback Austin Gahafer who finished his career as the MSU record holder for total yardage, offensive plays, pass completions, pass attempts, and touchdown passes. For the game, he finished 23-of-38 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagle defense made major plays throughout the game to limit Butler's scoring including a first quarter interception in the end zone and two blocked field goals.

After the game, head coach Rob Tenyer was quoted as saying, "That was pure team football today. It has been so enjoyable to see how our team has improved just this year. We made some adjustments on defense at halftime and took away some things they were doing well in the first half."

The 2015 Eagles finished the year 7-4 including a 6-2 conference record to finished third in the PFL. Gahafer was named PFL Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts throughout the season. MSU was represented on the All-PFL First Team by Gahafer, Grier, senior wide receiver Justin Cornwall, and senior long snapper Jakey Dunagan. Senior linebacker Luke Keller and junior linebacker Ryan Bennett were members of the All-PFL Second Team. Morehead State was also able to have 11 players made the All-PFL Honorable Mention team, tied for second most in the league.
