MOREHEAD, Ky. – This is a new series leading up to the beginning of the coming sports seasons that allows our fans to get to know our student-athletes. A different player will be featured in a story on their responses to a questionnaire given to all of our teams.
 
This edition is on softball junior Maddie Kawall.
 
Why did you choose to come to Morehead State?
Kawall: I chose to come to Morehead State because it felt like home away from home. It was small yet big enough for me to feel comfortable. The people here are amazing and friendly and the atmosphere around the university is unlike any other. The campus is beautiful. I wanted to be a part of MSU Athletics so bad!
 
What is your favorite memory playing your sport?
Kawall: My favorite memory of playing softball would have to be back in 2015. My high school team got the opportunity to make it to the Illinois High School Association State Finals. Being a very small school, it was an amazing moment not just for us but for our whole town. We were able to play in the championship game, getting second place!
 
What is your favorite song and which artist sings it?
Kawall: My favorite song right now is Cover Me Up by Morgan Wallen.
 
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show and why did you choose that movie?
Kawall: It is hard for me to pick just one movie, but I love Disney movies! I am still a kid at heart but I love being able to watch these movies with my whole family. My favorite TV show/series is Friends. I love Friends because it is one of those shows I like to watch whenever I am feeling both sad and happy. I call it a "feel good show" because it makes me laugh no matter how I am feeling.
 
What is your favorite restaurant to eat at and what is your go-to meal there?
Kawall: My favorite restaurant would have to be Portillo's. It is a Chicago-based hot dog restaurant. My go-to order is a plain hotdog, a large cheese fry, and a root beer!
 
If you could have one superpower, what would that be and why?
Kawall: The superpower I would choose would be to fly. Being able to fly would be a quick way to get anywhere I want to go!
 
Who is your favorite professional athlete and what makes them your favorite?
Kawall: My favorite pro athlete of all time is Michael Jordan. He is my favorite because I believe he is the greatest basketball player of all time and he played for the Chicago Bulls.
 
What is your favorite spot to go to on campus or in town/region?
Kawall: My favorite spot to go to on campus would be Lockegee Rock or the softball field. The views from both spots are amazing! Especially during the fall time when the trees from Daniel Boone National Forest change colors.
 
If you could time travel to any year/time period, what would you choose and why?
Kawall: I would travel to the 1920s because of how life looked like back then. Technology, like it is today, was not around and people looked so happy then. The outfits, the music, the landscape, everything looks awesome!
