MOREHEAD, Ky. -- For the second time in three weeks, Morehead State center
Johni Broome has earned the nod as the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
The 6-foot-10 power in the paint from Plant City, Fla., is the first Eagle since
Jordan Walker in 2016-17 to earn multiple Freshmen of the Week honors in the same season. Broome was also a unanimous selection in the voting this week.
In the Eagles' three games last week, Broome averaged 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. He recorded his second career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Transylvania (Ky.) on Thursday. He also added 13 points and seven rebounds at EKU in his first career OVC game while shooting 6-for-8.
Broome nailed nine of his 10 field goals during his double-double as well. He shot 67 percent for the week and is now leading the team in field goal percentage. He also ranks as the top freshman in the league in rebounding average now.
Broome and the Eagles host Eastern Kentucky Monday night at 6 p.m. ET.
