Rifle Sets a Pair of School Records in Victory Over VMI

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Just a week after winning its first Ohio Valley Conference title, Morehead State rifle continued to roll in high gear Saturday, defeating VMI and setting two school records. MSU won 4,665-4,412.

The Eagles' Air Rifle squad bested the previous school record by one point, with a 2,359. Freshman Elizabeth Plecity also shattered the school record for Smallbore standing with a 194 and 13 center shots, topping her sophomore teammate Erin Diehl's mark of 194-10x last year.

On the Air Rifle range, senior Alexa Potts and Diehl led the way with 592 scores. Sophomore Amber Schifano set a personal record with a 591, while freshman Grace Weber fired a 584. While not in the counters, sophomore Katie Frye totaled a 586. Junior Ryan Hinson and senior Karly Potts both fashioned 583 Air scores, and Plecity had a 581. That allowed her to tie her combined personal best of 1162. Freshman Bryce Ward also set a high-water mark for MSU with a 578.

In Smallbore, Plecity's 581 led the pack. Hinson (578), Diehl (575) and Frye (575) were next. Schifano had a 572, which helped her tie her combined personal standard of 1163. Cailey Dahlquist had her best-ever Smallbore standing score of 181.

The Eagles' next action is a crucial match as it's the NCAA Qualifier match at Kentucky Saturday.
