MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Following its first series victory and sweep of the season, Morehead State baseball returns home to John "Sonny" Allen Field for its first homestand of the new campaign. The Eagles (3-4) host Southern Illinois (5-4) for a three-game set.

Morehead State enters the weekend after completing a three-game sweep of Norfolk State last weekend behind redshirt junior left-hander Cory Conway's complete-game shutout in an 11-0 series finale win. The outing marked the longest of Conway's career in both innings pitched and pitches (96) while he also tied his career-high with five punchouts.

Southern Illinois heads to the Bluegrass State off a 2-1 midweek victory against Murray State Tuesday, which followed a weekend at the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego, Calif. In three games in the Sunshine State, the Salukis dropped games to No. 18 Arizona and Seattle while defeating USC.

All three games in the series will be streamed live on ESPN+.

NOTABLE (GAME NOTES)
Meeting for the second consecutive season, Morehead State and Southern Illinois have met four times prior to their upcoming weekend series. The Salukis lead the series 2-1-1, capturing two games in last season's three-game set.

This weekend's three games mark the first in the series to be played in Morehead as the two teams met in Deland, Fla. in 1991 and Carbondale, Ill. last season.

Entering the weekend, Morehead State owns a 4-14-1 overall record against the current membership of the Missouri Valley Conference with the team's last meeting against an MVC team coming at Southern Illinois last March.

Morehead State's sweep of Norfolk State last weekend marked the first series victory under head coach Mik Aoki while also marking the first road series sweep since taking all three games from SIUE from April 13-15, 2018.

With a victory in the first game of last Saturday's doubleheader, Aoki secured his 450th win as an NCAA Division I head coach. In 19 season, he owns a 452-505-2 record as a D1 head coach.

In just his second career start, redshirt junior southpaw Cory Conway recorded his first career complete-game shutout Sunday as the Eagles blanked Norfolk State 11-0. The outing was the longest of his career, as he tossed 96 pitches while tying a career-high with five strikeouts.

Conway's complete-game shutout is the first complete game thrown by an Eagle pitcher since Jason Goe did so against Murray State in last season's OVC Tournament while also being the first complete-game shutout thrown since Dalton Stambaugh did so against Jacksonville State on April 26, 2019.

Closing the door in both of Morehead State's games last Saturday, senior closer Jake Ziegelmeyer recorded the 11th and 12th saves of his career, surpassing Glen Koger for fifth all-time and tying Tyler Keele for fourth on the program's all-time saves list.

Recording a save in both ends of last Saturday's twin bill, Ziegelmeyer becomes the first to record a save in back-to-back games since he accomplished the feat against SIUE in a doubleheader on April 6, 2019.

Recording three steals in last Sunday's game, senior centerfielder Ryan Layne became the first Eagle to swipe three bags in a game since Jake Hammon registered three thefts against Tennessee Tech on May 10, 2019. The three-steal game also marked the first multi-steal effort of Layne's career.

Layne's four stolen bases on the season are tied for the OVC lead as he's stolen four bags in as many attempts.

With seven steals in last weekend's three-game series with Norfolk State, Morehead State recorded their best stolen base total in a weekend series since swiping eight bags in a series against Tennessee Tech from May 10-11, 2019.

Permitting just 21 walks in seven games this season, Morehead State leads the OVC in fewest walks allowed and walks allowed per nine innings (3.20 BB/9) while also leading the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.33; 70 K to 21 BB).
