Softball Falls Twice on First Day of Hampton Classic
NORFOLK, Va. – Morehead State softball dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Hampton Classic. The Eagles began the weekend with a loss against Howard (2-13) 10-1 in five innings before falling to Norfolk State (5-6) 10-6.

Sophomore Adeline Nicholson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the NSU game.

Morehead State, now 3-7 overall, returns to action on Sunday with a potential revenge match against Howard at 10 a.m. ET and a contest versus host Hampton at 12 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED -- HOWARD
- The Eagles were behind the eight-ball early on as Howard scored six times in the first inning.
- Junior Alexis Strother drove in the Eagles' lone run with an RBI in the fourth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED – NORFOLK STATE
- The Eagles began the scoring with an RBI groundout by Peyton Slater in the top of the first.
- Norfolk State quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of home runs, one being a two-run shot and the other a solo shot.
- The Spartans continued to score with an RBI single in the second. Two more singles brought home a pair of runners with an RBI double making the score 7-1 after three innings.
- A sacrifice bunt by MSU's Randi Hamilton scored one, while a fielding error by Norfolk State's right-fielder drove in another for the Eagles in the fourth.
- An RBI single by Nicholson in the fifth trimmed the lead to 7-5.
- The Spartans answered back in the sixth with a solo home run and a double that brought in two more.
- Another RBI single from Nicholson accounted for the final score of 10-6.
 
KEY STATS – NORFOLK STATE
- Strother (0-1) went 2-for-3 in the game but also absorbed the loss, giving up four runs in two innings pitched.
- The Eagles were out-hit 13-7 in the contest.
- Slater went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.
- Freshman Kirya Kingery earned her first career stolen base as an Eagle.
