#ThrowbackThursday: Soccer Turns Its 2013 Season Around to Win OVC Title
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Seven years ago, Morehead State soccer proved the saying "it's not how you start, its how you finish" completely true.

In the first eight matches, Morehead State faced off against stiff competition with the likes of Ohio State, West Virginia, Louisville and Xavier and started the season 0-7-1.

But once league play started, the Eagles came together strong. Morehead State finished 7-3 in the OVC and went on to defeat Austin Peay in the OVC Tournament before knocking off host and top-seed UT Martin 1-0 to win the 2013 OVC Tournament title. It was the Eagles' second title in four seasons.

Macy Cobb, from Grove City, Ohio, who was then a junior, scored the game-winning goal in the title match off an assist from teammate Kelsey Gomez, a sophomore from Katy, Texas.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd stopped a season-best seven shots in the championship match as well.

The Eagles went on to play Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament first round where they ultimately fell 2-0.

The 2013 season proved to be award winning on another level too as junior forward Jade Flory, from Chambersburg, Pa., and a Youngstown State transfer, earned OVC Offensive Player of the Year, newcomer Angela Black was the league's Freshman of the Year and head coach Warren Lipka was selected OVC Coach of the Year.

Flory erupted for 14 goals and five assists on the season, while Black, who came from St. Louis, Mo., had six goals and four assists in her initial collegiate season.

"Jade has been dynamic throughout the OVC portion of the schedule," Lipka said at the time. "She is a true attacking player, and I am extremely pleased she has been recognized."

"I feel like we have only scratched the surface in what Angela can do," Lipka added about his freshman star. "I think explosive is the best way to describe the type of player she is."

Flory went on to record 13 more goals as a senior in 2014, while Black scored eight more times in her career.
