Throwback Thursday: A Pair of Seniors Push MSU Volleyball to Victory
MOREHEAD, Ky. – It was a decade ago today that the Morehead State Volleyball team defeated Mercer in their first contest of the Hilton RTP Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.

The Eagles were led by a pair of seniors, Holly Evans and Kaitlin Craven, who combined for 29 of the team's 58 kills. During the match, MSU had 78 digs with five Eagles finishing in double digits in the category including Morehead State's all-time leader in career digs, and then-freshman, Leslie Schellhaas. The team also earned 55 assists, 48 of which coming from senior Kirstie Brangers.

The meeting was back and forth as the two teams split the first two sets, 25-19 and 22-25. Morehead State was able to sweep the next two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-22 to earn their first victory in the mid-season tournament.

This match was part of a very successful 2010 campaign for the Eagles as they finished with a 25-8 overall record while finishing 17-1 in the OVC. For her efforts throughout the season, Holly Evans was named OVC Player of the Year, AVCA All-Region and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention while head coach Jaime Gordon was named OVC Coach of the Year. All three of the team's aforementioned seniors were named First Team All-OVC.

The 2010 season was the beginning of a dominant four-year stretch in the OVC for MSU. From 2010-13, the Eagles accumulated a 67-3 record to earn four straight regular season championships. The program was also able to win two OVC conference tournaments and thus, two bids to the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and 2013.
