BOX SCORE
MOREHEAD, Ky. –  Morehead State stood toe to toe with the top projected team in the OVC for 45 minutes before finally falling to SIUE 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The loss is the first in conference play for the Eagles, who fall to 3-6-3 on the season and 1-1-1 in league play.
Morehead State opened the game with the same defensive intensity they have shown in the early stages of conference play, as they withstood a flurry of chances from the Cougars in the first half.
Michelle Jerantowski aided the effort with five saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless into halftime.
The Eagles were not without their offensive chances either, as they received a shot on goal from
Caitlyn Burdine and two from
Jenna Setters, but could not beat the SIUE goaltender and were outshot on the day 21-3.
After a strong first half, an unfortunate bounce in the first minute of the second half led to an own goal to open the scoring. SIUE would tack on two more goals in the next five minutes, before adding another off a counterattack in the 70th minute. A goal off a corner kick in the 81st minute gave the game its final margin.Â
Next up, Morehead State looks to bounce back when they return home against Austin Peay on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. ET.
