MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State rifle went shoulder-to-shoulder with No. 2 Kentucky at home Saturday, coming up just short in a 4680-4653 decision.

Junior Bryce Ward led all Eagle shooters with a 1174 overall score, including a 592 in Air Rifle and a 582 in Smallbore. 

Along with Ward, the Eagles had the top two finishers in Air, with senior Erin Diehl equaling her teammate with a 592. Senior Katie Frye shot a 589, while freshman Danielle Vigil continued her solid freshman season with a 589. Senior Amber Schifano was close behind at 588.

In Smallbore, the Eagles were led by Ward, while Diehl scored a 574. 

Kentucky's Richard Clark edged out Ward by two for the individual high score at 1176.

The Eagles' next action is at Murray State next weekend where they'll face the Racers on Friday and former OVC rival Jacksonville State Saturday.
