Olivia Lohmeier,
Bridget Bessler and
Irene Wogenstahl have each been honored on the 2021 All-Ohio Valley Conference teams. Lohmeier and Bessler repeated as First-Team selections, while Wogenstahl is a second-team honoree in her first full collegiate season.
Lohmeier, also a two-time Offensive Player of the Year during her career, is just the second Eagle in program history to earn First-Team All-OVCÂ four consecutive seasons, joining Dayle Hamontree. Bessler is the second setter in program history to be named First-Team three consecutive seasons and the first setter to earn the league's top team honors her first three collegiate seasons.
The three-time All-American and 13-time OVC Player of the Week Lohmeier is wrapping up one of the most decorated and impressive stat careers in program history. She enters postseason play with 1,940 career kills, which ranks second at MSU and third in OVC history. This fall, Lohmeier ranks second in the OVC in kills per set (4.03) and points per set (4.53) and is ranked among national Division I leaders in both realms. Earlier this year, she set the MSU single-match record with 39 kills (on a .471 hitting percentage to top it off) versus Cleveland State.
Lohmeier, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, has reeled off double-digit kills in 25 matches in 2021 and now 112 in her career. She also enters the OVC Tournament with 4,976 career attacks, which ranks second in program history. With 24 more she'll become the second player ever at MSU with 5,000+ swings in their career. Not to be overshadowed by her offensive totals, Lohmeier also has chalked up 272 career total blocks.
Bessler, from Hebron, Ky., ranks first in the league in assists per set (11.2) against conference foes and helps the Eagles lead the OVC in kills and assists. She has averaged more than 11 assists now in three straight seasons. She also now has 2,840 career assists, marking her second consecutive season leading the OVC in assists. Bessler's career assist total ranks seventh in overall program history, fourth in the overall rally scoring era (2001-) and second among Eagle setters in the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-).Â
Bessler has been named OVC Setter of the Week 10 times in three seasons ans also has nine assist-dig double-doubles in 2021 and 24 for her career.Â
Wogenstahl, who hails from Crestview Hills, Ky., has been consistent in her first full year, ranking ninth among league players with a .267 attack efficiency. She has produced six double-digit kill matches and 10 with a .300 or better hitting percentage. She also has piled up 73 total blocks and has only had five matches where she didn't have at least one block.
