Volleyball Adds M.E. Hargan to the Eagle Family
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Mary Elise (M.E.) Hargan, an accomplished two-time All-State athlete, has inked an National Letter of Intent to join the Morehead State Eagle volleyball family.

Hargan is from Elizabethtown, Ky., and Elizabethtown High School and also plays for the Mid-America Volleyball Association (MAVA) and head coach Dan Palmer. She is a 6-foot-1 outside hitter.

"I chose Morehead State because it felt like home, it was the place I wanted to be for the next four years of my life," she said. "I instantly loved the coaching staff, and I fit right into the campus. It is in a perfect location being only two hours from my family, and it is surrounded by beautiful scenery. They also have a great Pre-Veterinary program and they have their own farm, which is awesome. It just really felt like the right place for me both academically and athletically."

MSU head coach Jaime Gordon believes Hargan could be another special player with a lot of upside for her future.

"M.E. is the type of player who raises her game for big moments and is not afraid of a challenge," he said. "As a six-rotation outside, she has a great feel for the game.  She is the type of attacker who finds ways to score no matter the situation.  In the back row, the ball is very comfortable on M.E.'s platform, and she is able to defend and pass at a high level.

"I couldn't be more excited to have M.E. join our Eagle family.  She is a tremendous volleyball player, but most importantly a person of high character.  She understands hard work, helping others, and what it takes to succeed on the court and in the classroom."

Playing for head coach Bart Catlett at EHS, Hargan compiled career totals of 1,745 kills, 375 blocks, 797 digs and 204 aces. She was named First-Team All-State as a junior and senior. During her senior season, she swatted down 620 kills, had 247 digs, 85 blocks and 74 aces.

As a junior, she amassed 397 kills, 83 blocks, 228 digs and 46 aces. And as a sophomore, she fined tuned her service game and landed 84 aces.

Among her other accolades, Hargan was the Fifth Region Player of the Year as a senior and was named First-Team All-District her final two seasons. She also helped EHS to back to back fifth region titles as a sophomore and junior, the first time in program history they had accomplished that feat.

In the classroom, Hargan was named Academic All-State in 2018-21.
