MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Athletics has equaled its highest-ever graduation rate, according to the latest data from the NCAA.
The NCAA data takes into account the rate of graduation for athletic departments for a six-year cohort. The latest report is for incoming freshmen in the 2014-15 year, and Morehead State equaled the 2007-08 cohort at 70 percent success rate in student-athletes earning their degrees.
"These latest figures are an affirmation of our core values for Morehead State Athletics that the student-athlete is at the heart of every decision we make." said Director of Athletics
Dr. Jaime Gordon. "Our top priority is to ensure all of our students receive a first-class education culminating with the awarding of their degree. We feel strongly that we can provide the most advanced resources and support to help our student-athletes achieve their academic aspirations. This data reflects the exceptional commitment from our faculty, staff, and administration to serve the comprehensive development of our students."
Morehead State graduates its student-athletes in this cohort at 27 percent higher than the overall student body.
"Our goal in the EAGLE Center and our academic department is to help every student-athlete who enrolls at Morehead State earn their degree. I am proud that this latest data tells us our staff and our resources are truly working," said Director of Student-Athlete Services
Drew Barnette.
Faculty Athletic Representative
Dr. Darrin DeMoss is especially proud of how the data reflects on the quality people the department is bringing in to compete and earn their degrees.
"The academic data released by the NCAA regarding graduation success for the 2014-15 student-athlete cohort is record setting for Morehead State University. These results reflect positively on the quality of student-athletes recruited by our coaching staffs, the support provided our athletes by MSU and the focus displayed by the students themselves," he said. "Every employee at Morehead State University should take pride in the accomplishments of these students that represent all of us with the time they devote to be successful in the classroom and during competition."Â
