Football Program Adds Quintet of New Assistants
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- With the start of the spring football season just three weeks away, Morehead State has rounded out its coaching staff with the addition of five new assistants.

The newest coaches are Harris Bivin (Offensive Line), Matt Adolph (outside linebackers/co-special teams coordinator), Will Kirkendall (cornerbacks/co-special teams coordinator), Nick Wilson (running backs) and Valin Kattoula (administrative assistant/offensive line quality control).

Bivin, originally from Owensboro, Ky., and an alum of Apollo High School, was an All-American and First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference center at Murray State from 2010-13. He was also a two-time team captain.

Bivin most recently served as offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College for the 2019 season. Prior to that, he was the tackles and tight ends coach and offensive analyst for the 2018 season at Samford. Bivin spent the 2017 season as an offensive line graduate assistant at Western Kentucky, following his time as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Murray State.

Bivin has coached two all-conference offensive tackles as well as helping WKU to the Cure Bowl when he was on staff. He also coached a Remington Award Watch List finalist and Outland Award Watch list finalist. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in business administration from Murray State in 2014 and earned his Master's Degree in intercollegiate athletics administration from WKU.

A former all-academic performer and a long snapper at Kentucky with NFL coaching experience, Adolph has held a variety of successful coaching positions. He is originally from Columbus, Ohio. His most recent position was the linebackers and special teams coach at Valdosta (Ga.) State.

Adolph coached two full seasons at Santa Barbara (Calif.) City College, where he led the linebackers and special teams. In 2018, the SBCC Vaquero defense led the conference in a variety of stats including fumbles, pass defense, and red zone defense. The 2018 Vaquero special teams produced two touchdowns and six fumbles. In 2019, the Vaqueros were the state leaders in multiple categories, including fewest penalties, kick return stats and punting average.

Adolph went to SBCC after a stint as a graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach at Michigan State. He also previously served as a scouting assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014-15. In addition, Adolph has served as director of the American National Combines and coached at the HBCU Dream Bowl and All-American Tropical Bowl.

Adolph earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Kentucky.

A starter at cornerback and a two-time conference champion at Olivet (Mich.) - the alma mater of head coach Rob Tenyer too, Kirkendall comes to MSU after a stint as a linebackers graduate assistant at Gardner-Webb.

Prior to that he served as a defensive quality control coach at Eastern Kentucky in the spring of 2019 and the 2019 season. In his season at EKU, Kirkendall was part of a staff that helped the defense finish second in the OVC in points allowed, second in total defense, second in rushing defense and third in passing defense.  Eastern Kentucky was fifth in the nation in third down defense, seventh in fourth down defense, 11th in red-zone defense, 15th in rushing defense, 16th in total defense and 22nd in scoring defense in 2019. 

Kirkendall also coached the defensive backs and special teams at Florida Tech in 2018. The Panthers led all of Division II in scoring defense and advanced to the playoffs.

He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Olivet in 2017.

Wilson, native of Fresno, Calif., is currently on volunteer status but will be elevated soon. He is just the seventh player in University of Arizona history to rush for more than 3,000 yards. He burst onto the college scene in 2014 when he rushed for 1,375 yards and 16 touchdowns. Wilson led all freshmen in the Pac 12 in total yards and ranked fourth nationally among FBS freshmen while being named Freshman All-American.

He was limited by injuries during the remainder of his playing career but still managed more than 600 yards as a sophomore and senior. Wilson was on the preseason watch lists in 2015 for the Doak Walker and Maxwell Awards.

Wilson came to Morehead State as a staff member in the fall of 2020 and also then served as an assistant at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) this fall.

He graduated from Arizona in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in general studies with emphasis on social, behavioral and human understanding.

Kattoula, a native of San Diego, Calif., most recently served as assistant offensive line and strength and conditioning coach at the school he started his college playing career at - Southwestern (Calif.) College.

Kattoula also played college football at South Dakota (2016), Northwestern Oklahoma (2017) and Central Washington (2018).

He earned his bachelor's degree in health and sport science from Northwestern Oklahoma in 2017 and earned his Master's Degree in 2020 from Central Washington in athletic administration.
