BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the first time in the two program's histories, Morehead State men's and women's golf each garnered its respective sports Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, claiming both awards, the league announced Thursday.
Senior
Zac Viminitz and sophomore
MacKenzie Neal earned Golfer of the Week honors after each claiming 18th-place finishes at the Oldfield Invitational and Mid-American Challenge, respectively, each leading their respective programs to sixth-place finishes.
Viminitz paced all Eagle scorers at the Oldfield Invitational with his 18th-place finish, fashioning scores of 74-74-73-221. The Whitby, Ontario native saw great success on the Oldfield Golf Club's Par-4s, concluding the event one-over, averaging 4.03 strokes per hole on the course's 10 Par-4s while tying for ninth in the field in Par-4 scoring.
He also tied for 12th in the field in total birdies, carding 10 during the 54-hole event, sharing the team lead with fellow senior
Joe Muschong.
"Zac has been consistently around par in every round this season," remarked men's golf head coach
Matthew Martin. "He certainly has the firepower to contend in every tournament we play. I look forward to seeing his continued growth along with the rest of our team throughout the spring."
Neal helped Morehead State to the program's best 18-hole team total at the Mid-American Challenge, assisting the team's crafting of a final-round 285, marking down a 72 in the event's final round. Her final-round marked the second-lowest round of her career, pairing it with an opening-round 74 and second-round 75 to place 18th (221) in the field.
The Richmond, Ky. native also ranked highly in the field in total pars, carding 41 total pars, a total that placed tied for second in the field. She also ranked top-20 in the field in both Par-5 and Par-3 scoring, tying for 16th (4.83; -2) and 10th (3.08; +1), respectively.

Stephanie Barker. "It was impressive how many times she was in position for birdie, and when she wasn't, MacKenzie was able to save par. We are incredibly proud of MacKenzie, as well as the entire team for navigating the course so well."
Both Morehead State men's and women's golf returns to the course in two-and-a-half weeks. Women's golf opens at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C. on Feb. 28 with men's golf returning at the Gulf Coast Collegiate in Diamondhead, Miss. On March. 1.
