BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the 11th and ninth time in their respective careers, Morehead State volleyball's
Olivia Lohmeier and
Bridget Bessler have garnered a weekly award from the Ohio Valley Conference.
Lohmeier's selection as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week moves her into a tie for the most honored Eagle in volleyball's program history in both overall weekly awards and Offensive Player of the Week awards. Her 11th overall honor and ninth Offensive Player of the Week award ties her with Cherelle Lampkins and Ellie Roberson for most in program history in the respective categories.
Bessler's selection as the league's Setter of the Week ties her for second-most Setter of the Week honors in program history. The honor is also the seventh overall in her career, the sixth-highest total in program history.
Wednesday's selections mark the second time the outside hitter and setter of Lohmeier and Bessler have garnered the honors in the same week while Lohmeier's unanimous selection marks the third of her career.
Lohmeier, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the OVC in both total kills and kills per set. She tallied 30 terminations in six sets, an average of 5.00 per set, in leading Morehead State to a pair of sweeps of Austin Peay. Lohmeier tallied 15 kills in each match, hitting .324 in match two.
She also added four total blocks, including three solo blocks, to tally a conference-best 35.5 points (5.92 per set). In match one, Lohmeier tallied a pair of solo blocks, setting a career-high in the category.
A native of Hebron, Ky., Bessler dished out 73 total assists in six sets versus Austin Peay, averaging 12.1 per set. Over her last five matches, she has exceeded 12.0 assists per set in each match, hitting a season-high of 13.0 assists per set on three occasions, including in the final match against the Governors.
Bessler led the Eagles to a .266 team hitting percentage last weekend while leading the team to a .324 hitting percentage-the team's second-highest of the season—in match two. In the same match, she helped right-side hitter
Abby Hulsman post the seventh-most efficient match in program history, hitting .750 (9-0-12).
Bessler also added 20 digs (3.33 per set) in the Austin Peay series, recording her first double-double of the year in match one with 34 assists and 13 digs.
Bessler, Lohmeier, and Morehead State return home this weekend for a pair of matches with Tennessee State. The two-game series opens Sunday (6 p.m. ET) before concluding Monday (2 p.m.) at Johnson Arena.
