OVC RELEASE

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State Softball junior Peyton Slater has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference's Preseason Players to Watch list, the league announced Thursday.
 
The New Kent, Va. native had 14 hits in a tied for team-high 42 plate appearances with 12 runs, four doubles, one home run and eight RBI. Slater was hit by a pitch six times throughout the season, tied for best in the conference. She also earned a .462 on-base percentage with a .500 slugging percentage.
 
After making the transition from shortstop, Slater started all 16 games behind the plate with a 1.000 fielding percentage. She threw out five opposing runners with a .750 SBA%, both tied for second best in the OVC among catchers.
 
Morehead State Softball opens its season on February 20th against Youngstown State at 11 a.m. ET and Norfolk State at 1:00 p.m. ET in Norfolk, Va. The first home series for MSU begins on March 6th against OVC rival Eastern Illinois. Last year, the Eagles had already doubled their win total from two seasons ago before the rest of the schedule was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
