Volleyball's Olivia Lohmeier and Bridget Bessler Capture OVC Offensive Player and Setter of the Week Honors

Bridget Bessler and
Olivia Lohmeier garnered the Ohio Valley Conference's Setter and Offensive Player of the Week honors.
For Lohmeier, the honor marks her 12th career overall OVC Weekly Award and the 10th Offensive Player of the Week award as both totals represent program records. Bessler's Setter of the Week honor is her sixth career recognition and ninth overall OVC Weekly Award.
The duo of Bessler and Lohmeier led Morehead State to a two-game sweep of in-state rival Eastern Kentucky over the weekend as the pair led the OVC in key position-specific categories. Bessler paced all league setters in assists per set, averaging 13.2 per set, while Lohmeier led all conference players in points per set, averaging 5.36 per set.
A native of Hebron, Ky., Bessler passed out 93 total assists over seven sets against Eastern Kentucky, leading the Eagles to a .300 team hitting percentage. She passed out 40-plus assists in both matches against the Colonels—the first time she's accomplished this in consecutive matches this season—with a season-high 49 helpers in match one and 44 more assists in match two.
She also dumped in nine kills, a mark that ranked tops amongst conference setters last weekend while adding a service ace and a block to tally 10.5 points in the two-game series.
Bessler enters the regular season's final weekend ranked atop the league in total assists, passing out 545 on the season. She also enters the final series ranked seventh in the country in assists per set, averaging 11.60 helpers per set while also leading the Eagles to a .270 team hitting efficiency, a total that ranks 20th in the NCAA.
Lohmeier, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, recorded 37.5 points last weekend behind the strength of 29 kills, eight blocks, and three service aces—all totals that led Morehead State against Eastern Kentucky. She fashioned her 29 kills while hitting .350 in the two-game series, including hitting .391 in match two.
She tied a season-high with 19 kills in match one, chipping in a career-best 12 digs for her fourth career double-double.
Lohmeier enters the season's final week ranked tops in the conference in total points and points per set, tallying 239.0 points to average 5.09 per set. She ranks 19th in the nation in points per set while ranking 28th in the country in kills per set (4.57) as her 204 total kills rank second in the OVC, one kill shy of the league's leader.
Bessler, Lohmeier, and the Eagles return to action at home, welcoming Jacksonville State to Johnson Arena. The two-game set begins Sunday at 6 p.m. ET before concluding Monday at 2 p.m.
