LEXINGTON, Ky. – Morehead State was prepared for a tough battle against #7 Kentucky and got just that as the Wildcats put up 13 runs in head coach
Samantha Jones' return to her alma mater. In the first game played between these teams since 2012, Kentucky came out early with seven runs in the first and never looked back, defeating the Eagles 13-1 in five innings.
MSU was led at the plate by junior catcher
Peyton Slater as she accounted for two of MSU's four hits on the night. The two base-knocks tie a season-high for Slater after having previously done so against Eastern Illinois and Kentucky State.
CJ Alincic and
Kelsey Perkins combined to pitch 4.0 innings in the circle while striking out one Wildcat apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats loaded the bases early and capitalized with seven runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two-RBI double.
- Kentucky added another pair with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second before driving in three more runs by way of the long ball in the third.
- Morehead State finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when Peyton Slater doubled to left center to bring in Madeline Gailor.
- A triple by UK in the bottom half of the inning pushed the lead to its final score of 13-1 as the Eagles were defeated in five.
NOTABLE
- Peyton Rose stole her fourth base of the season in tonight's contest, putting Morehead State just one stolen bag away from 50 on the season.
- Along with Slater's 2-for-2 day, Kelsey Sparks recorded a hit in her only plate appearance with Madeline Gailor's single in the fourth accounting for all four MSU hits.
- Kirya Kingery was hit for the sixth time this season as she is now tied for second in the OVC in HBPs.
