Softball Drops First Game of Road Series vs. Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Morehead State Softball dropped the first of three games it will play against Tennessee State this week as the Eagles fell 5-2 at Tiger Field. Defensive mistakes proved costly as MSU committed three errors on the day, the most for the Eagles since tallying four against Tennessee Tech on March 22.

Morehead State's 2-3-4 hitters all registered one hit apiece to account for all three of MSU's base knocks. Junior catcher Peyton Slater picked up where she left off last night against Kentucky as she hit her second RBI double in as many days.

Lennon Spicer pitched a complete game against the Tigers as she threw 6.0 innings in the circle with three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a pitcher's duel early with no runs and only two combined hits between the two clubs in the first three innings.
- Peyton Slater continued her hot hitting as she doubled down the right field line to drive Erin Boyle in for the first score of the game in the top of the fourth.
- Tennessee State answered right back with a two-RBI triple to right field as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead after four innings of play.
- Kirya Kingery's double to bring Madeline Gailor home tied the contest at two runs apiece in the top of the sixth.
- TSU once again scored in the next half inning as the Tigers put up the final three runs of the game by way of a fielder's choice that scored one before a single eventually saw two more runners cross the plate.

NOTABLE
- Peyton Rose and Erin Boyle each stole a base in today's game as Morehead State has now eclipsed 50 stolen bases as a team this season (51 total).
- The Eagles have been in a bit of a slump as of late as the MSU lineup has now failed to reach five hits in five straight games.
- Kirya Kingery has restarted a new hitting streak as she went 1-for-3 on the day by way of her RBI double. She had previously recorded a hit in 10 straight games earlier this season.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will be looking for revenge in their doubleheader with Tennessee State tomorrow. Games at Tiger Field are tentatively scheduled for 1 and 3 pm ET.
