Softball Returns to Action with Road Series at UT Martin

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State Softball is back on the field this weekend with a three-game series against conference foe UT Martin. The Eagles haven't played since sweeping a midweek doubleheader against Dayton on April 7 after having last weekend's series with Belmont canceled due to COVID protocols.
 
The road matchup versus the Skyhawks will begin with a single game on Saturday at 6 pm ET before a Sunday doubleheader set for a 2 pm ET start. The trio of contests will be held at Bettye Giles Softball Field in Martin, Tenn.
 
Expect a lot of action on the basepaths in this series as Morehead State and UT Martin share the OVC lead with 55 stolen bases on the season. MSU leads the conference with 1.9 stolen bases per game as a team.

NOTABLE
• Sophomore Kirya Kingery is the catalyst for the speedy Eagles as she leads the OVC with 20 stolen bases. She is also 14th in the country with an average of 0.71 stolen bases per game. Her 20 SBs are the most for a Morehead State player since Krystie Coleman stole 21 bags in 2007.
 
• MSU batters have combined for a total of 24 times hit by a pitch, tied for the highest mark in the conference. The Morehead State pitching staff is second in the conference in HBPs, having hit 26 opposing batters on the season.
 
• Morehead State has seen excellent work behind the plate as junior catcher Peyton Slater has thrown out eight opposing runners this season to rank second in the conference.
 
• Freshman Lennon Spicer is fifth in the OVC with 102.2 innings pitched on the year. She ranks in the top 10 in the conference in appearances (T-eighth, 20), games finished (T-fourth, 10), wins (T-fifth, 7), and strikeouts (seventh, 63).
 
• MSU pitchers are tied for third in the OVC with 39 batters struck out looking. Lennon Spicer is second in the conference individually, representing 22 of the 39 total strikeouts.
 
Kirya Kingery is 10th in the OVC in runs, having crossed the plate 22 times on the season. She is also 11th in the conference with a .427 on-base percentage. Her 28 career stolen bases put her just outside the top 10 in Morehead State history.
 
• Morehead State has three Eagles in the top 15 in the OVC in times HBP. Kirya Kingery leads the Eagles with eight times HBP, tied for second-most in the conference. Peyton Slater has been hit six times to be tied for fifth-most in the OVC while Peyton Rose has been hit four times to be tied for 12th.
 
Alexis Strother leads Morehead State with a .325 batting average on the season to rank in the top 35 in the conference in the category. She is also 12th in the OVC with 21 RBI while being 15th in the conference with a .411 on-base percentage
 
• Infielder Peyton Jordan is currently 10th in the OVC with 50 assists on the season. She has been the Morehead State starter at second base for 26 of the Eagles' 29 games to date.
