Softball Falls in Rubber Match to UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. – Morehead State Softball was unsuccessful in its attempt to win its first conference series since 2018 as the Eagles fall to UT Martin, 7-0. The Skyhawks scored at least once in the first three innings to push the ballgame out of reach as MSU falls to 10-22 on the season.

Kirya Kingery led the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-4 showing to register her sixth multi-hit game of the season. Lennon Spicer pitched a complete game for Morehead State but was touched up for 13 hits by the UT Martin lineup while giving up seven runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Skyhawks were the first on the board as a two-RBI double put UT Martin up after an inning of play.
  • A throwing error by Morehead State pushed the margin to 3-0 in the second before a two-run homer in the third gave UT Martin a five-run lead.
  • The final runs of the ballgame came in the bottom of the fifth as the Skyhawks connected on another two-run home run to account for the 7-0 loss for Morehead State.

NOTABLE
  • Lennon Spicer continues to see action in the circle as she has now pitched in eight straight games for Morehead State. Today's contest was only the fourth game of the season where the freshman failed to record a strikeout.
  • Jen Clausen extended her reached base streak to five games after drawing a walk in the first inning. The streak is the third-longest for Morehead State this season.
  • The Eagles have now stolen at least one base in nine of their last 10 games including six straight after Kirya Kingery's successful attempt in the third.

UP NEXT
Morehead State continues conference play with a midweek doubleheader with Eastern Kentucky. MSU will host the Colonels on Wednesday for a pair of games set for 1 and 3 pm ET, respectively.
