Volleyball Ends Historic Season With the Program's First Appearance in the AVCA Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After capturing the program's first-ever NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship victory, Morehead State volleyball added another program first as the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll was released Monday afternoon.

Receiving four votes in the final AVCA Poll, Morehead State becomes the first Ohio Valley Conference program to appear in an AVCA Poll since its inception in 1982. The Eagles point total was constructed thanks to one voter listing Morehead State at No. 24 and two voters listing Morehead State at No. 25.

The Eagles finished the season as the OVC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, holding a 17-2 record overall and 15-1 record in conference play and advancing to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, the third OVC team to reach the second round all-time. The team's .895 winning percentage in 2020-21 also marks the program's best team winning percentage since the program began in 1972.

After dropping the first of two regular-season meetings with Jacksonville in five sets, Morehead State countered the defeat with two consecutive straight-set victories over the Gamecocks to capture both of the OVC's Volleyball Championship crowns.

The Eagles' postseason run didn't end with the conclusion of the OVC Volleyball Championship as Morehead State downed [RV] Creighton in five sets in the Opening Round of the NCAA Volleyball Championships, capturing both the program's first NCAA set victory and first NCAA victory in the thriller. The victory also marked Morehead State's first over an opponent appearing in an AVCA poll.

Advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Volleyball Championship, Morehead State matched up with No. 8 National Seed and sixth-ranked Florida. Despite the season's conclusion, the Eagles' grit and determination against the Gators drew the admiration of the volleyball community as the team continued to battle throughout the three-set match.

Morehead State's appearance in the final 2020-21 AVCA Poll adds to a long list of accomplishments for the Eagle volleyball program during the historic 2020-21 season.
