MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Stepping out of conference play for what has become somewhat of a rarity this season, Morehead State baseball is set to travel to Dayton for a 3 p.m. battle with the Flyers on Tuesday. MSU has just seven true mid-week games in 2021.
The Eagles (12-11) will face a Flyer (10-18) squad that has been a little up and down itself in 2021. Dayton started out 4-14 but has won six of its last 10, including a 20-13 slugfest at eastern Kentucky. The Eagles are coming off a series win over OVC foe SIUE.
The midweek tune up will set the stage for a road OVC series at Austin Peay this coming weekend.
The game will be carried live on ESPN+.

NOTABLE
- The last game to occur before the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020, Morehead State defeated Dayton 19-5 at home on March 9.
- Projected starter
Matt Bettio makes his sixth start of the 2021 season. He did make a short appearance on Saturday against SIUE, getting two outs, both on strikeouts, in the game two loss. In his last start on March 21 at Norfolk State, Bettio tossed a career-high five innings and allowed just one earned run in picking up his first career win.
- Freshman first baseman
Jackson Feltner ranks fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference and is the top true freshman among league batters in batting average. The Louisa, Ky., native is hitting a team-best .368 with three doubles and three home runs.
- Feltner enters this week with a team-high 13-game reached-base streak. During that span, Feltner is hitting a team-high .417 (20-of-48) with two home runs and a .563 slugging percentage. He has drawn six walks during those 13 contests too.
- Morehead State has lost just one game when holding a lead after eight innings, that being last Saturday when SIUE scored six in the ninth. The Eagles are 7-1 when leading after seven innings as well.
- Morehead State drew 13 walks against SIUE in the series opener last Friday and 13 more in the doubleheader on Saturday. On the season, the Eagles are averaging 4.9 free bases from opposing pitchers per game.
- The Eagles sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs in the sixth inning of the 13-8 win over SIUE Saturday. It was the most runs scored in an inning since tallying 12 at Eastern Illinois in the eighth frame of a 24-11 win on April 28, 2018. The record for most runs in a inning is 17 versus Kentucky State in the first inning of a game in 1962.
- Senior catcher
Jack Gardner recorded five RBI in one inning at the plate during the 12-run outburst Saturday. He had a three-run homer and a two-run double. Gardner currently leads the team and ranks tied for third in the OVC with six round-trippers.
- Senior second baseman
Bryce Hensor has raised his batting average 68 points in the past nine games. He has 14 hits in that span, including five multi-hit efforts. He is now ranked second on the team with a .337 batting clip.
- Senior left-hander
Cory Conway picked up relief-appearance wins in two of the three games against SIUE and now leads the entire OVC with five wins at 5-1. Conway made his 70th career appearance on Saturday, putting him eighth all-time in program history for appearances. His 66 relief appearances ranks third all-time, needing just three more to tie for second.
