Baseball Season Concludes With 3-1 Setback to Austin Peay in OVC Tournament

BOX SCORE

JACKSON, Tenn. --
It just wasn't in the cards for the Morehead State baseball team against Austin Peay Friday night. After dropping an emotional nailbiter earlier in the day to Murray State, the Governors held MSU to just five hits and defeated the Eagles 3-1 in the OVC Tournament to end Morehead State's season.

In its first full season under head coach Mik Aoki, the Eagles did managed to post the program's seventh consecutive above .500 season (full seasons) at 24-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- A leadoff walk eventually scored the first run for APSU. Garrett Spain singled through the right side to score Gino Avros.
- The Govs added to their lead with an RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the third.
- An RBI single in the top of the eighth by APSU pushed its lead to 3-0.
- The Eagles finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth as senior catcher Jack Gardner coaxed a bases-loaded walk. Senior Bryce Hensor doubled, while freshman center-fielder Ryley Preece walked and senior third baseman Stephen Hill was hit by a pitch.

NOTABLE

- Freshman left-fielder Jacob Ferry had two hits, his sixth multi-hit game of the year.
- Sophomore righthander Joe Rotkis tossed a career-long 7.0 innings. He followed up senior Jake Ziegelmeyer and starter Matt Bettio. Bettio only lasted two thirds of an inning,
- After an 0-for-4 day, freshman first baseman Jackson Feltner saw his OVC best 36-game reached-base streak and 27-game hitting streak come to a halt.
- Hensor, Preece and senior Arthur Sells all had hits as well.
- Hensor wrapped up his final season with a .354 batting average, while Feltner - the OVC Freshman of the Year - finished at a team-best .390.
