2021 Softball Ends with a A Pair of Losses to Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – Morehead State softball ended its 2021 season in heartbreaking fashion, falling to Murray State in both halves of a doubleheader at Racer Field. The Eagles began the day with a 5-1 loss to the Racers before dropping the final game of the year 1-0 in eight innings.

The loss in game two gave Morehead State a 2-2 record in extra-inning games on the year with Lennon Spicer earning the decision in all four contests. Overall, the Eagles finish the 2021 season with an 11-30 record while going 3-26 in the OVC.

Freshman Lennon Spicer finished the season with the most innings pitched in the OVC with 157.0 innings in the circle this year. Kirya Kingery stole her 22nd bag of the year this afternoon, tied for third-most for a Morehead State player in a single season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
- Murray State scored in the first inning for the second straight game of the series with two runs crossing the plate early, highlighted by an RBI triple.
- An RBI double followed by a throwing error by Morehead State plated two more for the Racers in the fourth.
- The Eagles got on the board for the first time this afternoon in the top of the sixth with an RBI single up the middle by Jennifer Clausen that scored Kirya Kingery.
- A solo homer by Murray State in the bottom half of the inning accounted for the final run in a 5-1 victory by the Racers.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
- Murray State's Hannah James held the Eagles without a hit until the top of the seventh before Josie Wefer's double to left finally put a crooked number in the hit column for Morehead State.
- Both clubs put runners on third in three straight half innings without being able to break the 0-0 tie.
- Murray State found success in the bottom of the eighth with a single to third that plated a runner from second base to give the Racers a 1-0 win and a series sweep.

NOTABLE
- Morehead State's single hit in game two is tied for the lowest amount for the Eagles this season along with a pair of games against Southeast Missouri earlier in the year.
- Jennifer Clausen earned her third RBI of the year and her first since game one of Morehead State's doubleheader with UT Martin on April 17.
- Kirya Kingery was hit by a pitch for the 11th time in game one, the seventh most in a season in Eagles history.
