Petree Announces the Signing of Four for the 2021-22 Season
MOREHEAD, Ky. – In putting together her first signing class at the helm of the Morehead State women's basketball program, head coach Cayla Petree has announced the signings of Morgan Browning, Alana Denson, Terri Smith, and Paris Williams as a members of the Eagle program's 2021-22 signing class.

Browning joins the Eagle program after prepping at MacArthur HS (Irving, Texas) and leading MacArthur to a two consecutive University Intercollegiate League Region 1-6A Area Finals. Over her final two seasons, she helped the Cardinals to 33 victories, including 20 in District play.

As a senior, Browning earned UIL District 7-6A First Team honors after averaging 15.0 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 steals, and 4.0 rebounds per game. She lead Irving MacArthur to nine district victories and a District 7-6A runner-up en route to the UIL Region 1-6A Area Final.

Browning added a second First Team All-District honor as a junior, capturing UIL District 6-6A First Team honors after helping Irving MacArthur to a District 6-6A Championship. In her junior season, the Cardinals captured 20 victories with 11 coming in district play.

Off the court, Browning captured a pair of District Academic First Team placements, doing so in District 7-6A as a senior and District 6-6A as a junior.

Denson comes to Morehead State following two seasons at Coastal Carolina, helping the Chanticleers to the No. 2 overall seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and 25 overall wins during the shortened 2019-20 season. Throughout her Coastal Carolina career, she appeared in 25 games, accruing a 21-4 in a Chanticleer uniform.

As a sophomore, Denson appeared in six games, averaging 9.0 points per contest while scoring in double figures in three of her six games. She neared a double-double on two occasions, posting nine points and 10 steals and 11 points and nine rebounds in two games versus UNC Pembroke with her 10 steals marking a program single-game record, becoming the first player since 1982-83 to accomplish the feat.

Denson appeared in 19 games during her freshman campaign as Coastal Carolina won 18 of the 19 games she played in. She shot 56.0 percent from the floor during the season, including shooting 66.7 percent from beyond the arc. She added two double-figure games during the 2019-20 season, including a career-best 17 points versus Wesleyan (Ga.), shooting 66.7 percent from both the floor and long range.

During her prep career, Denson led Forest Park HS (Atlanta, Ga.) to the 2018-19 Georgia High School Association Class 6A Final Four, earning three All-State honors during the run. She average 11.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.7 steals per game as a senior after averaging 10.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per contest as a junior.

Smith, a Southeast Missouri transfer, joins Morehead State with a championship pedigree, competing in two NCAA Tournaments and the WNIT. In 2020-21, she appeared in 26 games, making 17 starts in a Redhawk uniform.

As a redshirt junior, Smith averaged 6.2 points per game, scoring in double figures on eight occasions, including in each of the final four games of the season. She dropped a career-high 17 points versus Eastern Illinois behind a career-best five three-pointers. Smith also swiped a career-high seven steals while adding 12 points versus UT Martin.

Taking a redshirt in 2019-20 following a transfer from Western Kentucky, Smith was a member of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champion squad at Southeast Missouri. As a Hilltopper, she appeared in 51 games over two seasons, winning the 2018 Conference USA Tournament while helping her team to a run in the 2019 WNIT.

Competing at Sparkman HS (Harvest, Ala.), Smith, a 1,000-point scorer, averaged 12-plus points per game during her junior and senior seasons, earning consecutive All-Huntsville Region honors. As a junior, she lead Sparkman to a 21-7 record while earning a spot on the Alabama High School Athletic Association North-South All-Star Game North squad.

A transfer from Utah State, Williams appeared in seven games in her lone season in an Aggie uniform. She averaged 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds per game, including a season-high seven points versus Colorado State.

Prior to joining the Aggie program, Williams was a standout at Daytona State College where she ranked 72nd in the 2020 recruiting class and 20th among guards by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and espnW Hoopgurlz. Throughout her Falcon career, she accrued a pair of All-Mid-Florida Conference honors while being named to the 2018-19 FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII All-State Team.

Williams averaged 11.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game during her time at Daytona State, earning her a Daytona State College Hall of Fame induction in 2020. As a sophomore in 2019-20, she average 12.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, ranking 30th in NJCAA Region VIII in scoring and fourth in assists per game. She averaged 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per contest as a freshman in 2018-29, ranking 46th and 18th, respectively, in scoring and assists per game in Region VIII.

Williams's high school career saw her average 17.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 4.3 steals per game as a senior, leading Lakewood High School (St. Petersburg, Fla.) to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 6A State Semifinals in 2017-18.
