MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State athletics mourns the passing of football alum Jonathan Cage, who passed away this week at age 55.
Cage was an All-State tailback at Russellville (Ky.) High School before enrolling at Morehead State in 1984.
He was a starting tailback for the Eagles from 1984-87, scoring nine rushing touchdowns in his career. He also rushed for more than 500 career yards. In 1986, he helped Morehead State to a national ranking and a 7-4 record. He also served as a valuable kick returner for the Eagles.
At Russellville High School, Cage was an all-star athlete and helped his team win the 1983-84 state championship and win 24 games in a row. He was named one of the 50 greatest football players of all time at RHS.
