MOREHEAD, Ky. -- After a lengthy delay and 110 minutes, neither Morehead State nor Chattanooga could break through and score, as soccer wrapped up non-conference play on a rain soaked afternoon with a scoreless draw against the Mocs.
The draw moves the Eagles to 2-5-2 on the season, but does give Morehead State their first positive result on the road this season.
The Morehead State offense attacked Chattanooga throughout the afternoon, putting up a season high 14 shots against the Mocs. Junior Abby Vanhoeve and senior
Colleen Swift, who both had two shots on goal, paced the Eagles offense.
Junior goaltender
Michelle Jerantowski stopped all six shots she faced for her second shutout of the year and the third of her Morehead State career. The performance also marked the first overtime shutout of Jerantowski's collegiate career.
"We played a very balanced game. I thought we attacked well and defended well. It's the best 110 minutes we played all year. I am proud of our ladies' effort," head coach
Warren Lipka added.
After an hour and fifteen-minute delay due to poor weather and field conditions, the Eagles opened the game fast with shots from both Abby Vanhoeve and
Nicole Fiantaco within the first seven minutes, but couldn't get one past the Chattanooga goaltender. The Mocs would eventually respond with a chance of their own in the 31st minute, but Jerantowski stopped back-to-back shots.
After a back and forth second half, the Eagles ended with a flurry over the last ten minutes, getting shots from
Sarah Faloon,
Gabby Nastasi and
Colleen Swift to go alongside three corner kicks, but they still could not find the tiebreaking goal, sending the game to overtime.
Morehead State maintained their offensive pressure in the first overtime, but Vanhoeve and Fiantaco again saw their shots on goal stopped to keep the game scoreless. A fast paced second overtime featured four shots from the Mocs and one from Morehead State, a chance from
Allie Bush, but both goaltenders stood tall once more, ending the game in a scoreless draw.
Next up for Morehead State, they finish their three game road swing by opening OVC play at Eastern Illinois on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
