MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Chris Rose, a highly accomplished coach in the junior college ranks, has joined the Morehead State baseball staff as the volunteer assistant coach.

Rose has been awarded a Coach of the Year honor six times in his career.

Rose most recently was an assistant coach at Gulf Coast College, where he served for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Rose helped coach the conference Player of the Year, while GCC led its league in home runs both seasons. He coached four additional all-conference players.

From 2011-18, Rose was head coach at East Mississippi College. He led all the conference coaches in most players drafted, most playing at four-year schools, most playing at Division I programs, most playing in the SEC, most receiving baseball scholarships, and highest average D1 baseball scholarships per players coached. Rose had four players drafted from 2014-17 with the program only having five total players drafted in the previous 48 years before Rose led the team.

The Lions were the 2014 division champions, 2015 MACJC runners-up and Region 23 tournament participant and took part in the state tournament in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017. His team was nationally ranked in three seasons, including the highest ranking in program history.

Prior to East Mississippi, Rose was an assistant at Meridian Community College, where he helped guide the team to a 41-12 record and a 22-0 record at home. His 2005-06 recruiting class included 12 all-state players, the Mississippi "Mr. Baseball" and the No. 2-rated player in Canada. As pitching coach, he helped one of his athletes to the Mississippi Junior College Pitcher of the Year. 

He began his coaching foray at his alma mater, Mobile (Ala.), where he was for three seasons. His teams led the league in lowest ERA all three seasons, and Mobile took part in the 2001 College World Series.

Originally from Findlay, Ohio, Rose was a four-year letterman at Mobile where was a catcher. He graduated from Mobile with a Bachelor's Degree in business communication.
