Morehead, Ky. – The Morehead State women's track and field team will return to action on Saturday as it travels to Huntington, W.Va., for the Marshall Classic. The 14-event indoor competition begins at noon and will be held on the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex on the Marshall University campus. In addition to Marshall and MSU, Wright State and Cleveland State are expected to compete.

"It's a continuation from our last meet (Marshall Opener)," Eagle coach Clay Dixon said. "Hopefully, this will determine the next set of moves that will lead up to the (Ohio Valley Conference) indoor championships (on Feb. 23)."

Dixon has entered 16 athletes in six events. Many of those who ran in the team's first meet, the Marshall Opener on Dec. 2, will be back on the MU track on Saturday.

"I'm looking for Sierra (Kelley) and Dallas (Jones) to do well again. They had a good performance at the previous indoor meet," Dixon said. "Lucy (Singleton), Laikin (Tarlton) and Cloe (Copas) did well at the first indoor meet and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do."

Kelley won her heat and placed second overall in the 300-meter dash in 42.61 at the December competition, while Jones finished fourth in the 300m in 44.92 and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 32.02. Singleton also claimed second in her race, the 400-meter run, in a time of 1:02.43. Copas was not far behind, taking third in 1:04.43. Tarlton was third in the 600-meter run in 1:44.35.

Kelley and Jones will compete in the 200m and 400m on Saturday. JD Camacho, Tayla Lee and Keana Meriwether are also entered in those two events.

Singleton will toe the line for the 600-meter run, which will also feature the first appearance of Eagle freshman Lilly Gray. Copas and Tarlton are entered in the mile run.

"Several other girls have had a solid winter training," Dixon added. "Isabella should come out strong. She had a good cross season and it should carry over. Based on what I've heard, she should be the one to watch for (in the 3000-meter run)."

Copher finished the cross-country season by placing 19th at the OVC Championship and then was the team's top performer at the NCAA Southeastern Regional. She did not run at the Marshall Opener. Hannah Hostetler (3000m), Riliegh Owens (mile) and Mary Alice Thornburg (mile) will also compete in the distance races.

Freshman Grace Lopez will be the team's lone entry in the 60-meter dash and will also run the 200m.

"The distance runners were moved either up or down (in distance), and will not be running their main event. The Idea is not to put expectations on them in this first meet and then having them going out and getting blasted," Dixon said. "Some girls are still doing the 600m. Lucy, Laikin and Cloe usually run the 800 (meter race). Riliegh ran the 800m every time in the last outdoor season, but now she'll do the mile. The sprinters will run the 200m and 400m and then there's the 60m with Grace."

The Eagles will travel to Louisville for their next meet, the Bellarmine Open on Friday, Jan. 21.
