Morris' Air Rifle School Record Highlights Rifle's Weekend Sweep over GSU

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Rifle junior Andrew Morris fired a school-record 596-45x (center shots) Saturday as the No. 16 Eagle squad topped No. 17 Georgia Southern for a second straight day.

Morris helped MSU to a 4,674-4,652 win by topping former teammate Erin Diehl's previous mark of 595-49x (center shots), set ironically against Georgia Southern on Feb. 13, 2021. It was a day for records, though, as Georgia Southern's Addy Burrow tied the Button Rifle Range Air record of 597.

Saturday's Air scores featured a 590 by senor Grace Weber and a 587 from freshman Adrianna Beard. Graduate Bryce Ward and sophomore Danielle Vigil also performed top-notch with 586s. 

Junior Sally Reeke (584), junior Cassidy Wilson (584), freshman Holly Freeman (583) and senior Cailey Dahlquist (581) also topped the 580 plateau on the Air range.

In Smallbore, Morris rose to the top of the Eagle leaderboard as well, firing a 583. Ward and senior Elizabeth Plecity fashioned 578 each, while Beard and Wilson were one behind each at 576.

Hayden Bell: 569 Smallbore, 583 Air Rifle, 1152 Combined.
Cailey Dahlquist: Smallbore 574, Air Rifle 581, 1154 Combined (574+580)
Holly Freeman: Smallbore 579, Air Rifle 591, Combined 1170.
Andrew Morris: Smallbore 583, Air Rifle 596-45x (School Record), 1179 Combined.
Elizabeth Plecity: 195 Kneeling Smallbore
Danielle Vigil: 194 Tied Kneeling Smallbore, 577 Smallbore.
Cassidy Wilson: 576 Smallbore, 586 Air Rifle, 1159 Combined (576+583)

The Eagles return to action on the road at UT Martin Friday and Saturday. Smallbore will be scored Friday with Air on Saturday, similar to an OVC championship setting.
