MOREHEAD, KY -- Senior setter Bridget Bessler became just the third player in program history to eclipse 4,000 career assists, but the Morehead State volleyball team fell to the Southeast Missouri Redhawks in straight sets (25-27, 19-25, 17-25) Saturday at home at Johnson Arena on Senior Day.
The loss dropped Morehead State's record to 14-15 overall and 10-8 in OVC play. The OVC Tournament bracket will be out later Saturday evening. The Eagles will either land the third or fourth seed.
Game Notes
» Morehead State had three players in double figures in digs, led by Peighton Isley with 15.
» Shea Hefner had a match-high four aces in the loss.
» Abby Hulsman had a team-high 11 kills for Morehead State.
» Morehead State attackers were helped by a match-high 32 assists from Bridget Bessler. She moved to 4,018 career assists and missed a double-double by one dig.
» After setting the program block record on Friday night, Irene Wogenstahl added five more blocks today.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles dropped a close first set, losing 27-25 in a game that was tied six times and had five lead changes.
SET 2 | Morehead State then lost set two 25-19 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and never clawed all the back into the lead before dropping the set. MSU did have a 10-3 run after trailing 20-7.
SET 3 | Morehead State could not win set three and was swept by Southeast Missouri. The Eagles dropped a tough set 25-17. Morehead State trailed by as many as eight points as SEMO grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Redhawks took over the lead.
