Bessler, Wogenstahl Take Home Volleyball OVC Player of the Week Awards

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Two members of the Morehead State volleyball team took home Player of the Week honors for their performances in the final week of the regular season, as Irene Wogenstahl and Bridget Bessler took home the 156th and 157th weekly awards in program history.

Following her record-setting night Friday, Morehead State's Irene Wogenstahl garnered OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors during the final week of the regular season.In Friday night's five-set victory over SEMO, Wogenstahl set the program record for block assists in a single match with 13 rejections – just one block short of the OVC record. Wogenstahl also had 16 kills in the win, giving her a double double. She then posted five more blocks on Saturday.She averaged 2.25 blocks per set vs. SEMO this weekend, as the Eagles went 1-1. Her set average in blocks was the highest posted by an Eagle in five years. On the season, Wogenstahl leads the team in blocks with 111, putting her in a tie for fourth in the OVC.

Senior setter Bridget Bessler was honored with a weekly award for the 15th time in her career after being named OVC Co-Setter of the Week, extending her program record. Bessler posted her third 50+-assist performance of the season in Friday's win, and her 32 assists Saturday made her the third setter in Morehead State history with 4,000 assists. Bessler leads the OVC in assists per set, and is second in total assists. 

Next up for the Volleyball Eagles is the first round of the OVC Tournament. MSU takes on Tennessee State Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
