Eagles Return To The Commonwealth For Saturday Matinee

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State women's hoops returns to the Commonwealth Saturday for a matchup with Murray State.

Morehead State started strong in Thursday's matchup with Belmont, but the game was decided in the paint, where Belmont outrebounded the Eagles 45-26. Julan McDonald continued her stretch of strong play, leading the team with 19 points to go alongside five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Morgan Browning chipped in eight points of her own, while reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week Jada Claude added seven points and three rebounds.

The Racers are coming off a 26 point victory at Tennessee State, where they led wire to wire thanks to a balanced scoring attack featuring all five starters in double figures. The leading scorer and rebounder for Murray State, Katelyn Young, again led the way for the Racers with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

NOTABLE
• In her last game against Murray State, Jada Claude led the scoring for the Eagles, putting up 17 points, achieving double-figure scoring for the seventh straight game.

• Freshman walk-on Jazmyn Gaines-Burns has started three of the last five games for Morehead State. In those games, Gaines-Burns has averaged 4.7 rebounds, with 12 of her 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end, including a career-high six offensive rebounds last game against Belmont.

• Earlier this week, Jada Claude was named OVC Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season. Last week, she led the Eagles in scoring, averaging nearly 20 points per game, as well as posting a career-high 24 points against TSU.

Terri Smith connected on a career-high seven three-pointers against Austin Peay. The performance tied her for the most three-pointers made in a single game by any player in the OVC this season, and now has her with the third most made three-pointers in conference play this year.

Julan McDonald added to her team-leading 21 blocks with six rejections last week, which is the second most blocks in a game from an OVC player this year. McDonald now sits 2nd in the league in blocked shots with 1.5 per game.

Alana Denson is now 11-23 from three-point range in conference play, which puts her third in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage (.478).

• This season, against opponents the Eagles are seeing for the second time, their scoring output has increased by an average of 15 points per game and their scoring margin has increased by 13.5 points per game.
