BOX SCORE
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State Men's Basketball seemingly played catch-up the whole game Saturday afternoon. Despite scoring their second highest point total of the season, the Eagles fell at home to Southeast Missouri 92-84 at Johnson Arena.
MSU fell to 20-9 overall and 12-4 in the OVC, while SEMO, which won for only the second time in the last 10 meetings with MSU on the Eagles' home court, improved to 12-16 and 7-8 in the league.
While the Eagles battled all afternoon and even held a slight lead early in the second half, SEMO was able to build a 12-point lead with 5:45 left in the game that ended up being too much for the hosts to overcome.
Johni Broome's season-long block party continued today, as he notched three blocks to bring his season total to 116 – a Morehead State single-season record. Broome also had 15 points and 12 rebounds for his 21st double-double this year.
While Broome may have broken records today, senior
Jaylon Hall had a career day on Senior Day, finishing with 21 points and hitting six three pointers. Fellow seniors
Tray Hollowell (11) and
Jaylen Sebree (5) combined for 16 points. Hollowell also extended his streak of hitting at least one three to 34 games. As a team, Morehead State shot 43% from the field.
Unfortunately, however, the Eagles were unable to stop SEMO. Despite winning the battle on the boards, Morehead State could not win the game, thanks in part to the crazy three-point-shooting from SEMO. Going 15-for-30 from downtown, the Redhawks posted 92 points, the most points scored by a visiting opponent since Belmont's 96 in 2019.
Despite hitting 10 triples, the Eagles were cold from long range for the second straight contest, only managing to shoot 28% from three-point-range. Morehead State did score 34 points in the paint to SEMO's 26, but it was ultimately not enough..
SEMO's Eric Reed led all scorers with 28 points.
Morehead State goes on the road for its final two contests of the regular season this week, playing Thursday at Eastern Illinois, and finishing Saturday at SIUE.
