MOREHEAD, Ky. – After being awarded OVC Newcomer of the Week three times this season, Morehead State women's basketball's
Jada Claude has secured a spot on the conference's All-Newcomer Team, as well as the All-OVC Second Team, the league announced Tuesday.
The Fayetteville, Ga. native becomes the ninth Eagle to earn a spot on the OVC's All-Newcomer Team since its inception during the 2005-06 season, the fourth consecutive season a member of Morehead State has earned a spot on said team. She is also the 24th Eagle to secure a spot on the All-OVC Second Team.
"Jada has a bright future here at MSU and in the OVC. She was our "go-to" player and put up big numbers vs. multiple defenders all year. She was top four in scoring and rebounding in the OVC, despite being triple teamed at times," head coach
Cayla Petree said.
Claude finished the regular season as Morehead State's leading scorer in conference play, averaging 15.3 points per game, ranking fourth in the OVC in scoring in league-play only. Claude also ended the year averaging 7.0 rebounds per game, leading the Eagles as well as all newcomers in the OVC, putting her fourth overall in the conference.
On the year, Claude recorded seven double-doubles, the second most in the conference, as well as posting 19 double-figure scoring games and eight double-digit rebounding games.
She also posted a career-high in points during league play, scoring 24 points against Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois (Jan. 31 and Feb. 24), while grabbing 18 rebounds against USC Upstate during the team's non-conference slate (Dec. 18). The 18 rebound performance was the most from any player in the OVC this season.
"She loves the game and spends a ton of time on her own so I am happy to see her recognized and excited to see her growth," Petree added.
