MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's men's basketball's
Johni Broome and
Skyelar Potter have earned spots on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 18 Teams. Broome is a First-Team pick, while Potter is on the Second-Team.
The 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Broome carried on and elevated his game from his 2020-21 OVC Freshman of the Year season. Scoring double figures in 32 of the 34 games, Broome also had 10 20+ games. The Plant City, Fla., native also set the MSU single-season blocked shots record with 131, ranking third in the nation in rejections. That total was only seven shy of tying the OVC single-season mark and now rests as the third highest block total for an OVC player in one year.
He averaged 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, becoming one of only seven players in program history to achieve 500+ points and 300+ rebounds in a single season.
A two-time First-Team All-OVC selection, Broome was also on the Lou Henson Award Watch List for the Mid-Major Player of the Year again this season. He posted 23 double-doubles, the most for an Eagle player since Kenneth Faried's program single-season mark of 28 in 2010-11. That was also the highest OVC total since 2015-16.
In just two seasons, Broome has compiled 986 points (15.4 ppg) and 629 rebounds (9.8 rpg). he had a career-high 18 rebounds in a home win over Belmont and set a career-high with 32 points in the OVC Tournament Championship game versus Murray State.
Potter, from Bowling Green, Ky., by way of a transfer from Wright State, finished the year by averaging 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds. He drilled 59 three-pointers to rank second on the team.
Potter scored in double figure 19 times in 2021-22 and 38 for his Eagle career, including a span of eight straight from Jan. 20-Feb. 5. He had a season-best 20 points in a win over Kansas City and scored 17 on three other occasions.
He finished his junior season with 971 career points, spanning MSU and WSU. Potter also compiled four double-doubles this season.
