MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State's third pair
Bella Williams and
Olivia Montelisciani claimed wins in both of their matches Friday, but beach volleyball dropped two contests to open the OVC Weekend at Chattanooga.
The Eagles, who fell to 3-5, came up short to host Chattanooga 4-1 before dropping a close match to Austin Peay 3-2.
Against Chattanooga, Williams and Montelisciani outlasted their opponents in a three set battle, 21-9, 15-21, 15-11.
The first pair of
Allison Whitten and
Olivia Lohmeier, and the fifth pair of Reagan Alexander and
Irene Wogenstahl both fell in three set contests of their own. Whitten and Lohmeier fell 18-21, 22-20, 21-23, while Alexander and Wogenstahl lost 22-20, 12-21, 11-15.
Trinity Miller and
Anya Reinhard fell in straight sets 17-21, 20-22, and
Margaret Musselman and
Abby Hulsman were also swept 19-21, 19-21.
Williams and Montelisicani swept their match against Austin Peay 21-17, 21-17 and Musselman and Hulsman knocked off their opponents in a three set match 19-21, 25-23, 15-12. The Eagles fell in the remaining three contests in straight sets.
Beach volleyball returns to the sand tomorrow when they take on UT Martin and Eastern Illinois. The first match is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET, with the second beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
