MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State men's golf has garnered Ohio Valley Conference honors as fifth-years
Joe Muschong and
Zac Viminitz have been named to the All-Conference team. This is the third consecutive season Muschong has received the honor while Viminitz appears on the list for the first time in his career, making him the 20th Eagle in program history to receive an All-Conference team award. The honors also mark the fourth time in program history that Morehead State saw multiple golfers make the All-OVC team.
The two have had consistently strong seasons, accumulating multiple Golfer of the Week honors this year, and the duo leads the Eagles in scoring average and account for each of Morehead State's five lowest rounds this season.
Joe Muschong enters the tournament ranked second in the conference in stroke average, carding an average round of 71.6 over 28 total rounds this season. Muschong has accumulated four top-five finishes this season, including back-to-back second place finishes in the middle of the season, and his low round of 66 at the EKU Fall Invitational tied for the third lowest score in the OVC this year.
The Lexington native continued his unparalleled success in match play this season as well, running his program-leading pairing victory count to nine by going 4-1 over the course of two events.
Zac Viminitz opened his season by fashioning the lowest individual round in the conference this season with his third round 65 at the EKU Fall Invitational. Zac's best performance on the year, however, came in March at the Butler Spring Invitational, where he charged up the leaderboard in day two, moving up 30 spots to finish in the top-10. The 68 recorded by Viminitz in the second round was the lowest score of the day and tied the lowest score of the entire tournament.
Viminitz showed his prowess at the match play format as well, as he also racked up a 4-1 record in head-to-head contests this season to help lead the Eagles to a victory at the Northern Kentucky match play event and a third place finish at the Carpenter-Chaney Classic against other OVC rivals.
Muschong and Viminitz open the OVC Championship Sunday, with the Eagles teeing off the event's opening round beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET.
